I grew up in Beth Eden UMC in Rockford, Illinois as a grandchild of charter members there, Charles and Mary Severing, participating in many of the events and programs at Beth Eden including youth choir, youth group, chancel choir, worship team, Bethlehem Marketplace, and many others. This is where I learned about how to live my life for Christ. I complimented the congregation at Beth Eden during the church conference on 2012 when I announced my desire to enter into the ministry by stating that this community of believers took their vows at my baptism seriously. They raised me in the church, watching over me in Christian love, and encouraged my growth by teaching and being examples of what it means to be a follower of Christ.
After 40+ years of life training and experiences, God spoke to my heart, telling me that I was ready. God walked with me through this life of mine, guiding me in many difficult situations, allowing me to learn from my mistakes, and using all of these experiences for His good is this calling which He has given to me.
…and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
I am currently a “senior” at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary. I have less than a year left of my seminary education, after which I look to serve God and all of you at Lanark United Methodist Church and within the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. My plan is to listen to God’s plan and to serve Him wherever He may call me.
Personally, I am a husband, father, and friend. My lovely wife, Sherry, is the love of my life. We met while sharing a music stand in high school and were inseparable from that time on, culminating in our marriage in 1993. We have two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Jessica, who we couldn’t be more proud of. Stephanie is currently pursuing a degree in human development at I.S.U. and Jessica is enrolled at Eastland High School. Both are devoted followers of Christ and enjoy worship and learning about Christ.
We are so happy to be here in Lanark, IL serving this wonderful congregation and our Triune God. We look forward to our life in ministry together as we discern God’s call on all of our lives.
In Christ’s Love,
